Last week was all about Figma. At the 2024 Config Conference, the design platform unveiled a slew of exciting updates. A key change is the ability for different Figma workspaces to connect, enabling easier collaboration between teams or companies.
Auto Layout received several enhancements, such as automatic frame suggestions, default Fill prioritization, and the ability to ignore layout when placing objects. Figma's Dev Mode also gained new features, including a Ready for Dev View, responsive prototype viewing, and AI-generated prototype connections.
The platform integrated AI capabilities as well, allowing for interface generation, design searches, content replacement, and automated layer naming. Beyond these functional upgrades, Figma's user interface underwent a major visual refresh, with floating panels, a bottom toolbar, and a modernized aesthetic.
The introduction of Figma Slides was another highlight, as this new presentation tool integrates the full design capabilities of the platform. Figma Slides allows embedding interactive prototypes and even uses AI to adjust the tone of presentations.
And, I was honored to be featured in the opening keynotes at ConfigAPAC by Dylan Field. It was an exciting week full of innovation and progress for the design tool.
