Over the past year and a half, I've embarked on an exciting journey into game development. Starting with little coding and math skills, I've gained confidence working with engines like Unreal and Godot. It's incredibly rewarding to see my creations come to life, but the path of game development is challenging.
Creating an indie game seems easy at first, but it requires significant time and money, and most developers struggle to make it a sustainable career. Participating in game jams has been one of the best ways to learn and grow, as these events push my creativity and problem-solving in a fun, collaborative environment.
Creating an indie game seems easy at first, but it requires significant time and money, and most developers struggle to make it a sustainable career.
When developing an indie game, it's crucial to consider costs like website development, advertising, and playtesting. Crowdfunding can help, but it likely won't cover everything. Finding a publisher is another option, but big ones have more money yet limit creative freedom, while smaller ones offer more freedom with less funding. It's about balancing the support you need with the creative control you're willing to give up.
Despite the difficulties, game development is incredibly rewarding. Watching an idea evolve from concept to interactive experience is magical. The excitement of overcoming challenges and learning new skills keeps the journey engaging. If you're passionate about creating games, don't be discouraged by the hardships - use them as motivation to improve and achieve your goals. As I continue my game dev journey, I'll share more resources on my social channels and start a YouTube devlog to document my progress and experiences.
