I've noticed that the no-code debate has gained significant traction lately. Numerous platforms, such as Webflow, Framer, and Play, have made it easier for individuals and small businesses to develop websites, prototypes, and apps quickly and affordably. Advocates within the no-code community argue that this movement is making development more accessible and that creating MVPs and side projects is now much easier.
The idea that everyone is switching to no-code comes from how it is viewed within its own community. While no-code platforms offer some advantages, they aren't as revolutionary as some claim, especially for large and complex applications. Most popular apps still use traditional coding, and even no-code tools are built by skilled developers. No-code is excellent for quickly creating simple projects, but it has limitations in flexibility and scalability, which means that complex applications still require coding skills.
Someone has to code the code for no-code software.
You know, I can host a landing page, my portfolio or any fully functional side project (3dicons) for free, with complete customization and no limitations. On the other hand, no-code tools often charge high subscription fees just to create a landing page and adding custom domain. The choice is your, of course. Personally, I’m proud to say that all my projects it's landing pages have been hosted on GitHub or Vercel, letting me enjoy years of reliable hosting without spending a single penny.
I believe that rather than replacing traditional development, no-code can complement it, serving as a valuable solution for specific use cases. Moving forward, a hybrid approach that leverages the strengths of both no-code and traditional coding will be crucial. Recently, I started exploring Webflow and Wix Studio and found that these platforms fall somewhere in between—they aren’t purely no-code but are more low-code, offering options to use no-code elements alongside custom coding solutions. This collaborative mindset will enable teams to utilize the best tools for their needs, fostering innovation while ensuring that complex projects are built on solid foundations. Embracing this balanced perspective will be key to navigating the evolving landscape of digital development and empowering a wider range of creators.
